大连外国语学院座落在风景秀丽的海滨城市大连，它的前身为大连日语专科学校，是在周恩来总理的亲切关怀下，国家为培养外事干部和日本语翻译人才于1964年创办的。大连外国语学院经过40年的建设，现已发展为一所以外语为特色，文经管工等多学科协调发展的外国语大学。学校设有日本语、英语、俄语、法语、西班牙语、德语、朝鲜语、汉语言、对外汉语、艺术设计、旅游管理、国际经济与贸易、计算机科学与技术、信息管理与信息系统、计算机软件、阿拉伯语、新闻学、音乐学等18个专业；其中，6个专业有硕士学位授予权。日本语语言文学和英语语言文学为省级重点学科。为适应社会对复合型、应用型人才需求，我院设立韩日、日英、英日、韩英、德英、法英、俄英等双语专业倾向，复语专业已成为我院的特色专业。
    目前学校有各类在校生近两万人，其中研究生600余人，本科生9000余人，外国留学生800余人，成人教育学生1400余人，各类培训生8000余人。建校以来，为国家培养各类专门人才5万余人，接受外语培训和教育的学员30余万人。学校现有教职工800余人，其中教授、副教授近200人；省、市等各级学科带头人20余人。同时，聘请外国专家50人。
    近几年，我校教学科研取得显著进步。院长孙玉华教授荣获教育部首届百名高等学校教学名师奖。我校基础日语和基础俄语综合课被省教育厅评为2003年省级精品课程，基础法语和高级俄语综合课被评为2004年省级精品课程，同时，高级俄语综合课还被评为2004年国家级精品课程。2000年以来，我院教师承担省部级项目20余项，获得省级以上奖励的科研成果30余项。我校于2004年被辽宁省教育厅确定为辽宁省人文社会科学重点研究基地。
    近年来，我校对外合作交流广泛，形式多样。目前，与世界各地国90多所大学和科研机构建立实质性交流合作关系。与俄罗斯、日本、法国、加拿大、韩国、英国等国家联合培养本科生、硕士生和博士生，每年交流学生200余名。其中，我校与俄罗斯国立远东大学2+2联合培养项目被国家教育部列入到2005-2008年中俄教育合作执行计划。

  Dalian University of Foreign Languages (DUFL) is located in Dalian, the coastal metropolis with its natural beauty of landscapes. Founded in 1964 under the attention of Premier Zhou Enlai, it was then known as Dalian School of Japanese Language to train cadres for foreign affairs and Japanese translators and interpreters. Through the 40 years of development, DUFL has now grown into a multi-disciplinary, well-rounded university. Apart from foreign language teaching, DUFL now offers subjects in various fields concerning linguistics, literature, economics, management and engineering.
  There are 18 majors, including Japanese, English, Russian, French, Spanish, German, Korean, Chinese, Teaching Chinese as a second language, Art Design, Tourism Management, International Economics & Trade, Computer Science & Technology and Software, Information Management and Information System, Computer Software Engineering, Arabic, Journalism and Music Study, six of which will lead to master’s degrees. Japanese Language & Literature and English Language & Literature are the key subjects on the provincial level. In order to meet the need of the society, the school has prepared students for a compound of majors and an acquisition of applied knowledge by offering a unique two-language-orientation majors: Korean and Japanese, Japanese and English, English and Japanese, Korean and English, German and English, French and English, Russian and English.
  At present the university boasts of an enrollment of more than 20,000 students in various programs, 600 postgraduates, 9,000 undergraduates, 800 international students, 1,700 students of adult education and 8,000 trainee students of various kinds.
  Over the past 40 years, more than 50,000 students and over 300,000 trainees have graduated from our university. Currently, the university cherishes a staff of over 800 members, of whom around 200 are professors and associate professors. There are more than 20 scholars as provincial or municipal leading members playing an important role in various academic fields. 50 foreign experts in language teaching are employed.
  In the past years, the university has made great progress both in teaching and research. President Professor Sun Yuhua was honored with the first Award of One Hundred Renowned Teachers of Institutions of Higher Learning.? The basic course of Japanese and Russian were evaluated as the provincial best courses in the year of 2003 by Liaoning Provincial Committee of Education; French Basics and Advanced Russian the provincial best courses in the year of 2004; Advanced Russian was also appraised the national best course in the year of 2004.
  Since 2000, the teachers of the university have taken more than 20 research projects of provincial and ministerial level and have won more than 30 prizes at the provincial level or above. In 2004, our university was chosen as the key research center for social sciences by Liaoning Provincial Committee of Education.
  In recent years, our university participates extensively in academic exchanges and cooperation with the outside world and has established substantial academic relations with more than 90 universities and research institutions in the world. The university has set up programs with the universities in Russia, Japan, France, Canada, Korea and England to jointly prepare undergraduate, MA and Phd. Candidates, and an average of 200 students is sent to study abroad each year. One of the joint programs offered with Russian Far East University in exchange of students on the basis of 2+2 model, namely the students receiving 2-year overseas education and 2-year domestic education, has been listed on the 2005-2008 Sino-Russian Education Cooperation Plan.
